Yoga Nidra sleep and nervous system health and deep healing and relaxation
Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," is a powerful and ancient relaxation practice that guides you into a state of conscious rest, allowing your body to relax while your mind remains aware. It often involves the use of a ‘Sankalpa’ which can be thought of as an affirmation or intention that aligns with your life purpose and self-actualization. This Sankalpa is stated three times at the beginning and end of the practice to be planted as a seed in the unconscious mind when the mind is at its most relaxed and malleable. The entire practice of Yoga Nidra is done lying down and can be thought of as a lying-down meditation. Suitable for everyone, Yoga Nidra is an amazing tool for all aspects of wellbeing due to the profound rest it offers to the nervous-system and to the mind.

Yin & Yoga Nidra

Join us for a deeply restorative hour at Shine Shakti Studio, Waratah Street, Katoomba.

This class begins with Yin Yoga — long-held, floor-based postures supported by gravity and guided by breath. Each pose is held for 3–5 minutes, giving the fascia (the body’s connective tissue network) time to gently respond and release. By meeting our edge with respect and softening into stillness, we invite spaciousness not only in the body but also in the heart and mind. Emotions and sensations may arise, offering us the chance to stay present and compassionate with ourselves.

We then transition into Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation often known as “yogic sleep.” Where Yin works with the physical body and fascia, Yoga Nidra works directly with the nervous system, inviting profound rest and deep integration. Together, these practices harmonize the body and mind: Yin unwinds tension held in the connective tissues, and Yoga Nidra allows that release to settle deeply into the subconscious, leaving you nourished, grounded, and restored.

All levels are welcome — simply bring yourself as you are.
